Add layers & intrigue to your junk journal: 3 simple ideas
It’s transformed my everyday life into a kind of treasure hunt, where even the most ordinary moments hold the potential for discovery. A receipt, a scrap of paper, a tiny detail I might have once overlooked suddenly becomes something worth saving.
Here are three of my favorite ways to add texture, depth, and a little intrigue to my pages:
Mini booklet
A teeny tiny junk journal tucked inside your junk journal. Fold two or three small sheets of paper in half and staple along the spine to create a miniature booklet. I used patterned vellum from my kit for a soft, delicate cover.
You can glue or tape it directly onto your page, or create a small pocket so it can slip in and out—perfect for flipping through or adding to over time.

Pockets
Simple, versatile, and endlessly useful. You can use premade ones or create your own by attaching paper or fabric along three edges.
They’re ideal for holding pieces you’re not quite ready to commit to the page, or little keepsakes you want to keep safe but still accessible.

Cellophane bags
Perfect for capturing those tiny, beautiful bits that are too small to use but too special to toss. Fill small cellophane bags with confetti, sequins, snippets of ribbon, thread, or paper scraps.
I even repurposed the wrapper from a cutting tool in my kit, filling it with delicate offcuts to create an abstract, see-through collage.

For me, adding to my journal is both joyful and calming. It’s a gentle, creative ritual that lets me capture moments without pressure, in a way that feels natural, personal, and easy.
