Doh not Play with our Hearts!

Oh My Heart! sticker sheet was such a joy to work on, mostly because it gave me an excuse to play. Instead of starting digitally or aiming for a super polished look right away, I wanted this sheet to feel handmade from the very beginning. Layered, imperfect, and full of texture, you can almost feel.
I began by experimenting with a mix of materials, focusing on marks and surfaces rather than finished shapes.

One of the more unexpected materials I used for this sheet was Play-Doh! I rolled out a few different colors, mixed them together just enough so they started to blend but didn’t fully lose their individuality. The result was this pretty, marbled texture.
One of the most obvious elements you’ll probably notice right away is the spatter paint. I love spatter because it instantly adds energy and movement, and it never looks the same twice. It’s messy in the best way and brings in that happy, accidental feeling that’s hard to replicate digitally.
The colorful brushy marks throughout the sheet were made using Tempera paint sticks, which might honestly be my favorite art material. I used them almost like crayons and paint at the same time, building up areas of color.
Once everything was scanned, the process shifted into Illustrator to create, finese and finalize the heart and star shapes.

That mix of analog messiness and digital tweaking is one of my favorite ways to work. It keeps things playful and surprising, and it means the final stickers are little little works of art.
This sheet feels like a celebration of experimentation and proof that sometimes the best art has unexpected backstories.
